The thermochemical treatments

The thermochemical treatments are thermal treatments that take advantage of the phenomenon of diffusion in the solid phase to change the chemical composition of the surface of some alloys.

The ultimate goal, as in the case of hardening, is to confer some mechanical properties to materials such as, for example, the hardness and wear resistance, oxidation and fatigue. These characteristics are attributed to the workpiece surface due to the absorption of a chemical component outside.

They are an example of the thermochemical treatment carbocementificazione, carbonitriding, nitriding and gaseous ferritic nitro gas.
