Cape Town: Green investment opportunities

0

The City of Cape Town, the Western Cape government, and GreenCape welcomed “with great excitement” the notice by Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies to designate Atlantis, north of Cape Town, a Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

Cape Town Atlantis

The SEZ was to be developed as a GreenTech hub with particular focus on clean technologies, electronics, solar and wind energy technologies, energy efficient technologies, alternative waste management, alternative building materials, and technologies, among others.

The development of the Atlantis GreenTech SEZ had the potential to attract more investors and also contribute significantly to changing the development landscape of the entire Atlantis and neighbouring areas, which were currently confronted by many problems, including high unemployment, poverty, and drug abuse.

Opportunities are clearly illustrated in a technical brochure relased on line .

Situated on the West Coast of South Africa, 40kms from Cape Town, the Atlantis SEZ capitalises on the province’s already booming renewable energy and green technology sector. It supports the manufacturing sectors to become suppliers and component manufacturers for the renewable energy sector, in particular independent power producers in the government’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Programme (REIPPP).

Why invest in the Atlantis SEZ?

  1. Strong and growing South African and African markets for greentech

Independent market research shows strong demand for renewable energy and green technologies from South Africa and the African continent.

  1. Well-located & development-ready area

The Atlantis SEZ has good access to major national road networks and is located in close proximity to key renewable energy markets.

  1. A strong support base and existing relationships for investors to tap into

Partnerships and relationships that will help facilitate investment and doing business are already in place with business, government and labour.

  1. A One-Stop-Shop (OSS) for wide-ranging investor support

The Atlantis SEZ team can assist with information, and facilitate access to permits, licenses, planning and development approvals, incentives and finances.

  1. Incentives for investors and tenants

The City of Cape Town, the national government and the Atlantis SEZ offer a range of attractive incentives for investors and tenants.

  1. Attractive, wide-ranging skills base to recruit from
